4 Reasons it will not:

  1. The maker movement is a white movement. Minorities play little to no role.
  2. The maker movement is an upper middle class socioeconomic movement. The poor play little to no role.
  3. The maker movement is a highly educated movement. Makers are highly educated. Most people are not. The non educated play little to no role though the maker ‘culture’ pretends this is not the case.
  4. The maker movement is an identity based movement rather than a goal or aspiration based movement. To be a maker is to identify as a maker (at the moment that means white, rich, educated, preferably tech savvy). It is a product of silicon valley, therefore it has silicon valley values. These include such all time favorites as: techno-superiority, fake empathy, false advertising, and greed.

The only the only thing the maker movement is redefining is what it means to be a rich white asshole in america today. Now assholes “make” things too. Sweet, let me go get my checkbook, sorry I meant my smartphone, what douche still pays for things with checks?
