…cessarily free at all; rather they are the combination of deterministic outcomes and random events. If you take the long view based on our technological trajectory, we will eventually be able to entirely predict human behavior based on analysis of genes and experiences. Freedom is an illusion — you are shaped by genetics, experiences and chance mutations and that’s it. Pretty dark, isn’t it?
And so the plot of Minority Report was written not by the great Phillip K. Dick, but instead by one unknown young writer with an old soul. From this day hence we shall no longer view the legendary science fiction author with as much regard as we once did. It now seems clear he had been blatantly ripping off ideas from the future the entire time. How many more of his classic works did Mr. Dick steal from this brilliant but unknown mind. I count at least six in this current post and probably many more in other ground breaking, unheralded articles Mr. Down has authored. Like this current work each is no doubt full of never before conceived of ideas that are not at all crazy and weren’t dreamed up in a late night bong session with his college roommates three Saturdays ago. Shame on you Phillip K. Dick. Shame on you.
