I never thought I would enjoy climbing as much as I do. I had done a little bit of top rope climbing in college and found the whole experience tiresome and a bit pretentious to be honest. The strict protocols and slow pace had me looking for the exits about 10 minutes in to my first lesson. So I was more than a little apprehensive about going back to try climbing again. My good friend had recently joined an indoor bouldering gym and after a bit of cajoling I finally relented and joined her for a day. I was hooked very quickly as it was really nothing like climbing with ropes. You could set your own pace, essentially choose any route you wanted out a huge number of possibilities, and select whatever difficulty level you felt you could handle.
It has been a few months now and my strength, agility, and flexibility have improved markedly although my overall skill level remains basically novice level. In any event I intend to continue pursuing as a hobby and the best things about bouldering, it is absolutely free.
