How many cognitive biases can we fall prey today? How about the recency illusion, declinism, gambler's fallacy, proportionality bias, weber-fechner law, just to name a few. I could go on and on and on. The ancient world was also too complex for any of us to understand. We survived to build the modern world. Guess what, the world is complex. It does not require understanding nor desire to be understood. Not understanding it is no better or worse than fully understanding it (a logical impossibility). Worrying about its complexity is about as big a waste of time as worrying about losing control of it. You (we) can't change it and you (we) never had any control over it.
