It is now obvious that neurons are arranged in a hierarchical fashion, each layer has its own role and responsibility. To detect a face, the brain relies on on the entire network and not on a single layer.

Is it now? When did that happen? Here I thought this was still a controversial idea with many other credible alternatives, each of which has some experimental support. I must be reading the old neuroscience papers. I’m sure if I get some newer ones this will become obvious to me too.
