Let me say for the record if this is a MMORPG of some sort I would like a +5 on my stamina and dexterity, a few more HP, and can somebody get me a bag of mother fucking holding already. Plus, gold coins, and I mean lots of ’em, pronto. Seriously, I like the way you are thinking about this and I can very much appreciate the idea conceptually but as I drill down to the details it gets wobbly. For instance, I cannot imagine why any anthropologist of the future or other dimension or whatever would want to live my life. Certainly if I were famous or influential or whatever I can see someone opting for the chance but to be me, no freakin way. Now perhaps you could say that these alien anthropologists do not get to choose, that they have no idea who they might be or when or where or anything. If that were the case I just can’t see that many signing up to take that chance. It might be risk free but with memories of reality suppressed they would have to know that the experience and any pain associated with it would be all too real. Why take the chance of having to live 50 years as a slave or spend 2 years locked in dungeon or tortured to death, etc. Never forget the vast majority of people have pretty terrible lives still, full of pain (physical and emotional) and very few comforts.

I have thought along these lines before. Like when I die if “God” or whatever says “OK, You want to give it another shot?” what would I say. Of course I would say ‘Sure, if you let me choose who I want to be and when and where” and then God says “no dice kid. totally random.” what would I say then? would I take the chance? I guess it depends on the alternative now doesn’t it.?
