More Opioid Deaths, More Stories, and More Pain for the Suffering

Today was another awful day for people like myself suffering with chronic pain. Headline stories in the Washington Post and New York Times chronicled even more tragic deaths from opioid abuse. Heroin overdoses continue to spiral out of control. Prescription opioids like fentanyl are the latest villains. The usual targets like percocet and Vicodin are continually referenced as enablers of the current crisis. Increasingly the meek objections of the people who genuinely benefit from these drugs are crowded out. The doctors who dare to still prescribe them are viewed with ever increasing hostility and derision. I read these articles from my bed, propped up in the only position that minimizes my suffering. I continue to look for any courageous doctors who might be willing to help me. Give me access to the only substances that currently exists which can allow me to live a normal life. With each passing day that hope seems further and further away.
