The main zipper on my longtime work/laptop/short trip backpack finally failed. Combined with the battle scars accrued over years of use and abuse, the zipper failure means I shall need a new one. The realization of that simple fact means that my next 5 days are now fully pre-determined. They will consist of the following:
Day 1: Initial Excitement and Positive Outlook
This will be kind of fun. I can finally upgrade to a work laptop backpack more suitable to my current lifestyle. Maybe something just a little more professional and hopefully a lot more comfortable. It would also be nice if it were a bit more travel friendly, something I could take on 1–2 day business trips of which I have many more these days then I have had in the past. Cool, this is going to be sweet. I’ll just hop on the ‘ole Amazon Prime account, do a quick search, find something I like, and it’ll be mine in a couple of days. The best part is that since it will be primarily/solely used for work I can put it on my corporate card, so money is no object.
Day 2: Paralysis in the Face of Overwhelming Options and Choices
But maybe I shouldn’t get a backpack? I’m too old for that, right? Maybe a rucksack? Wtf is a rucksack? I wan’t something that’s going to last, be durable, probably should stick with a brand name. Who’s known for good backpacks? I am mostly familiar with the outdoor hiking/camping/climbing variety. Are the same brands good when it comes to work/travel focused laptop backpacks? Maybe Amazon search is too restrictive, let me try Google? maybe I should read some reviews first? Then I’d better check out some lists and rankings. What material? What color? What size? What features? etc. etc. etc.
Day 3: Settle for Something/Anything to Make it Stop
I don’t care anymore. This is just too freakin hard. I pick you.
Day 4: Relief and Anticipation
Man I am glad that’s over. Can’t wait until I finally have my new pack.
Day 5: Disappointment, Anger, and Regret
This is it? But, wtf? I spent all that time, wasted that money, on this? F*$k a nut! I never should have bought this one, the other one I was considering would have been way better. Typical me, always making the wrong choice.
