Nice piece. A corollary to #9 that I might recommend. Let's call it 9a. Don't lose sight of the past. It is so very easy to get trapped in the mindset that it is only the most recent, most up to date, latest research that is important. This is especially the case in the younger technology fields. Do not fall for it. There are always lessons to be learned from the past, and there are avenues to new discoveries that you will only find there. At the very least understanding the past will help prevent you from repeating the same mistakes. Good luck!
