Of course. I totally agree. Unfortunately many men who already hold sexist or misogynestic views of women will not. It is for these men I wrote that response. They will read that original post as a personal attack. Obviously they are wrong but to dismiss their feelings as irrelevant or ignorant (which they no doubt are) is only to invite a further hardening of their position. Many of us who believe fully in the cause of gender equality look at those who do not as totally beyond saving. They are only deserving of scorn or contempt. Perhaps I am naive but I still believe that at least some of them may be open to considering they might be in error. There must be at least a small fraction of persons who might be persuaded that what they think, what they have been taught all their lives, simply can not be supported by the facts. Obviously as a scientist I have been conditioned to think that. However I will continue to operate on that assumption until proven otherwise.
