Revocation of Citizenship is a Fitting Punishment for Violent Capital Crashers
They Don’t Deserve to Be Called Americans Any Longer
In a previous post I suggested that capital punishment could be part of the discussion for those involved in violent actions in the capital this week. This is based on a reading of the events as amounting to treason and those who participated as traitors. If this is the case than article III of the US Constitution does provide for that option for those found guilty. I won’t advocate for executions for two reasons First, it is a barbarous practice that has long outlived its usefulness and now disproportionately impacts the poor and minorities. More importantly in this case specifically it sets up any of the persons who would be executed as martyrs and could draw more support to their “cause.” Imprisonment including lifetime or very long sentences may be a good option for some of the most violent offenders, but what about for the hundreds or thousands of lower level offenders who participated in pushing and shoving perhaps but carried no weapons, or if they did, did not use them?
Here is my proposal. We have the pictures of every single person involved on a camera somewhere and I suggest we use them to track down each and every person that was present. Any that carried a weapon or used a weapon (this includes fists or any part of the body) would immediately have their citizenship revoked in addition to any jail time and fines that may be incurred. Those who only voiced support and committed no violence would be eligible for revocation of citizenship. but it would not be automatic and instead some sort of trial or other process may be used to determine who, if any, should face this punishment. To be clear revocation of citizenship would not include expulsion from the US to some cushy “neutral” country where these people would live a life of leisure supported by US or some other countries largess. They would remain in the country but be stripped of all their rights as US citizens. Essentially they would be declared foreign nationals on US soil and treated as such. Immigrants in their own former homeland. Of course as such all the same relevant immigration enforcement requirements etc. would apply. These people who so often rail against immigrants taking over our country would get a chance to see for themselves exactly what that experience is like.
All persons involved in this national disgrace would be eligible for this “program” up to and including the so called leader of this farcical “movement”, Donald J. Trump.
