This is absolutely, 100% not the case. It is one of those so called “facts” that has been written/spoken so many times now that it has hardened into conventional wisdom. It has become so commonplace to hear this “argument” that no one even bothers to challenge it anymore. As is typical whenever somebody utters this ridiculous notion, there is zero data presented to back their sweeping conclusion. To dismiss “several thousand years” of philosophy as “arcane” and “not mattering to the average human” is hubris of the highest order and patently false. To read it from a philosopher, one who goes on to condemn “fake news” and the like is doubly depressing. Look I get it, dismissing the bulk of the history of your chosen profession is a good way to draw in readers and “prove”what an “honest” and “tough” guy you are. Unfortunately all you really prove is how disrespect for history, facts, and reality, can be found in any profession and in any article on any topic.
