To clarify this a bit. While early LW would likely mostly agree with my decision to totally throw in the towel on philosophy’s explanatory power phase 2 LW most certainly would not. While he would no longer believe that philosophy could truly have explanatory power he most certainly still believed in the power of philosophy to clarify. To clear away confusions. Philosophy is not to be abandoned but rather its main goals altered. Ultimate truths could never be proven true or false by philosophical reasoning alone. However through philosophy the search for such truths if they do exist can be set on the correct path. Given the appropriate foundations. Circumscribed in such a way that if these hypothetical other methods do eventually succeed or indeed can ever hope to succeed we can be assured the answer they provide is correct and not simply nonsense.

As with all commentary on the philosophy of LW buyer beware. This applies double in my case as I am a non-expert. I am a research scientist by training and trade. I study philosophy as a hobby. I comment on it as an amateur.
