Who could have predicted that out of the estimated 30–50K words in the English language that people actually use ‘intelligence’ and ‘learning’ would emerge as the most disputed, most discussed, most used, and most abused of them all? Not surprisingly the relationship between the two concepts (these words do not stand for things but for concepts which is one reason they have the traits listed above) is also disputed and seemingly ever evolving. To answer the question posed in the title of the post must be left to more “intelligent” persons than myself, however I can pontificate and have written much on why the language we use in discussing these two concepts is so important.
