Why is Medium So Squeemish About Curse Words?

This is Not the New York Times

Medium has, admirably in my view, taken a strong stand in favor of ignoring conventional journalistic standards. (Incidentally, this is not because I have a problem with such standards. In fact I find them very useful and am very much in favor of their continued enforcement in the media outlets which choose to enforce them) They have made it clear to their writers and readers that this is not a traditional media outlet. They do not require their writers to follow any particular style or enforce strict standards with respect to what they will publish. That said, they seem to take a much more traditional view with respect to what they will endorse (via curation) when it comes to the use of curse words. This is most especially the case when it comes to the use of curse words in the titles of articles. I guess my point is if you want to get your article curated, do not put curse words in the title. Just don’t do it, no matter how fucking awesome it would sound.
